I have a vintage Sony mini system. This was top-of-the-line in 1985. The mini-system retailed for $599 and the CD player was another $299. This is a seriously powerful and good-sounding system. These are extremely hard to find due to age and how much they cost back in the day. This is a great-working system, except that the tape deck does not work and just runs continuously. It sounds like it needs a belt. I just unhooked it from the main system. The tuner works great, and the integrated amplifier works extremely well. I lubed up the controls for a nice smooth experience with no static. The CD player works well but sometimes has trouble reading CDs. I don't know if it just needs a clean and lube or what, but sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it has trouble. The speakers have holes on the inner sides, I think from being attached to the main system at one point. They're on the inside so you can't see them normally anyway. Maybe that's how they came? Who knows? The plugs on the power cords were shaved down at some point to fit into a tight space. They still work fine.
Thanks,
Marc
Re: Sony FH-11W and Sony CDP-7f
I'm not sure of the current value but I had the same system, it really was very nice. Of course superior performance can now be had in smaller, lighter devices and cassette decks are of very little value these days so I wouldn't expect much of a return.
Re: Sony FH-11W and Sony CDP-7f
Ok, thank you.
Re: Sony FH-11W and Sony CDP-7f
This is a great sounding system that was considered a top of the line stereo back in 1985. I've seen these sell for anywhere from $120-350. The system retailed for $599.00 and the CD player went for $299.00.
Valuation depends highly on how well the unit is functioning. Sounds like the CD player may need to have the reader replaced or at a minimum cleaned well with rubbing alcohol. The CD or belt would need to be fixed in order to get top dollar.
Re: Sony FH-11W and Sony CDP-7f
Thanks for the info. I have seen this unit sell in the UK for $800. How hard or how much would it take to get all those things done to the cd player? From what I ubderstand, they are fairly rare.
Thanks,
Marc
