Old Cardboard Camel Cigarette Sign

By CMcCann33, 14 January, 2014
Description

I found this item at an antique shop in Wisconsin Dells, WI this last summer for $20. It is half of a cardboard sign for Camel Cigarettes from the 1940's (according to the seller) that says "It is a fact that Camels..." the bottom captures a portion of the rest of the ad, "are made from". As I stated, it is made of cardboard, and does show signs of aging and wear consistent with an item that is 70 years old that has been cared for and preserved fairly well.  It measures as is 42" long and 18" tall What I'm looking to find out is, how much it is worth, how rare is it, and does the other half of it exist?

Category
Tobacciana
Medium
The item is made of cardboard and maybe a thin canvas.
Distinguishing marks
"Camel" is in bold, red letters consistent with the advertising of the time.
Condition
Good
Size and dimensions of this item
42" long x 18" tall/wide
Date Period
Approximately from the 1940's
Weight
fairly light, I would say no more than 5lbs, but I haven't had it weighed.
History
Not sure on whether it was an outdoor or indoor advertisement, but the condition of it tells me that it may very well have been an indoor advertisement found in a general store or grocery store of the 1940's. I wasn't given any information about its care between leaving the store it was in and where it ended up (antique store in Wisconsin Dells, WI).
Price Paid (If known)
$20
For Sale?
No
