Very old hand made signed vase

By mmcclure, 3 February, 2014
Description

Ive had this vase for a couple years now and you can tell its very old and has a mark on the bottom. I think its uniquely beautiful and would love to know more about it.  Ive had a couple opinions from people but nothing I could find online helped me findout anything about it.  If you look inside you can see each ring where its been hand made.

Re: Very old hand made signed vase

It dates from the turn of the 19th century and was probably originally sold as an undecorated blank. These were then hand decorated by who ever bought them, usually people taking pottery classes or a small decorating studio that decorated them for resale. Most like this one often sell at auction for less than $100.00.

Re: Very old hand made signed vase

I think it was originally sold as a blank because the decoration is poorly done compaired to factory decorated examples of the same type and vintage. Decorators painting the same flowers all day, everyday while employed by the larger potteries became expert at it, one like this would never have passed quality control.

Re: Very old hand made signed vase

I have paperwork from a well known appraiser authenicating it as an early factory Nippon.I just wanted a second opinion.  I think in the end, Thats all it is . Just an opinion.  But think you very much for your time and hopefully if I get a third it will agree with one of the two.   Thanks again

Re: Very old hand made signed vase

also I was wondering if you noticed the gold color mons (crest) near the rim. They are also around the bottom, under the glaze so its hard to see from the picture. Also it is done with bright enamel paints,
