By wilm, 31 October, 2009
Description

Not much to tell. We had it given to us by an elderly gentlemen (in his 70's when died) He told us he had it as long as he could remember. It good condition, has minor rust damage to frame, and 1 small pin hole in the drum. It is in working order. Has a large steel front wheel.

Re: Hand Operated Cement Mixer circa 1950?

I have got one which is in a very good condition. Used by PWD Malaysia in Alor Setar in the 1950s. I manage to salvage this one from the Mergong workshop which was on its way to the cut shop. So I bought this from the cut shop and have been having it with me since 1987.

According to some friends in the JKR then, they were used to build government houses. They had actually bought them from the UK. It was a very handy item and succesfully utilised until the machine operated ones stepped in.

This machine has actually moved with me all over the country and even to Labuan during one of my postings there. It has never failed to fascinate the visitors to my house. The letters PWD are inscribed in the lower part. of the machine.
