French Chaise Lounge

By lperduyn, 8 April, 2014
Description

Found this is a storage space years ago. It had a black and flourescent crushed velvet fabric on it that was absolutely hideous. I took it to a professional upholster. The cleaned and restored the original down prior to reuphlostering. They told me that I had a very expensive piece here. From what I can see, it's like that of the Louis 19th century french chaise lounges. It does nto ahve the gold but it does have a bit of patina look to it. The carving is simple and not over the top like I've seen some. It's also a light wood, not the dark wood...like the cherry I've seen. I was told there was a unique wood for that time era that was rare, and that's why it may be such a unique piece? I'd like to sell it, but I've seen various prices on these and not one is completely like this one. And most, are not reupholstered. Any help you can provide in nailing down an estiamted value on this would be helpful.

Re: French Chaise Lounge

Furniture in the Louis XVI style has never really been out of production since it was first popular in the late 18th Century. The style has gone through several revivals over the last 100 years, but most like this do tend to date from the second quarter of the 20th Century. The lounges are currently quite popular, even going at auction in the $300.00- $600.00 range.
