Description
Hi All.
New here. I bought this strange-looking lamp at a thrift shop in NYC. The metal on the "petal" part of the flower shade is very bendable and bends easily. The neck on the lamp is rusty and made of another metal. The base is super-heavy and solid, like a paperweight. It's an odd piece because the neck arcs downward so the tulip shade touches the desk. Does anyone have any guesses as to what it's made of or when or where it was made?
Thank you and Happy Memorial Day!

Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Looking for any guesses or information on how to identify the metal. Are there any vintage/antique metal-knowledgeable people on here? The bendable silver-colored metal is such an odd choice for the petals since they bend so easily. Or maybe this was intentional. Please help me with any info you can offer on this quirky, odd piece! Thank you so much! /Edie
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
is there any marks on this anywhere, even the smallest mark would help?
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Hi Phoenixguy1954
Thank you for this question. There are no marks or ID anywhere. I would have included this information if there was even the slightest hint, but there are no marks, unfortunately. Does that mean it was handmade/custom-made?
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Can we see the whole Lamp ?
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
I don't think its one of a kind, the toggle switch looks like the same color? on the end of the plug what does it say? maybe I can date it with that. also maybe bottom of the lamp?
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Phoenixguy1954, the end of the plug, that's a good idea. I'll also take some photos of the bulb as there's some writing on it, though I don't know if it's the original bulb. I recently had someone ID the metal identified as spelter. I'd never heard of it before. Do you know anything about spelter metal? Someone also said the gooseneck was made of bronze? It's all a puzzle...
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Goose Neck Lamp. Art Noveau in design, not a typical american switch. very likely and emport.
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Crazy Ike, oh, Art Noveau in design. That's very helpful, thank you! Also, not a typical American switch, ok, I was wondering because the whole design on this piece is just...quirky as heck! I didn't know this could be an import so you're offering some more valuable information and guesses. Thank you so much, I am so grateful to you and Phoenixguy!!!! I will be uploading some more photos of the plug, bulb, anything else I might be able to find. You are cool and not so crazy, lol.... ;-)
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Another question I have is if anyone knows the value of pewter, spelter or bronze for scrap? And where I could sell for scrap? Unless it's worth something or of value to sell as an art or home deocration item. Thank you!
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
No Do not scrap this lamp. before we have a chanch or someone can ID it... your talking Tons of scrap to make a diff.. One scrap lamp won't get you a cup of coffee...I really like this lamp. I do not know what it is yet. But I would pay you $20.00 cash for it If I saw it at a yard sale.Thats even if you marked it to $4.00 Yard Sale price.. And I am very cheap when I go picking.. But Honest!.I'm still looking, now I can't stop...
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Phoenixguy1954, you rock! I know what you mean about not being able to stop researching. This heavy, weird little lamp has no brothers or sisters on the internet. Thanks for being so diligent in doing this research with me and others. It reminds me of Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree and I admit, I've grown attached to it somehow...
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
A good view of the light socket might solve some issues.
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Crazy Ike, the light socket, that's a good idea. The light is actually still in working condition and the light does go on when you use the switch. In addition to the plug, I will remove the bulb and also take some photos of the socket. Great ideas everyone! Thank you so much again!
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
I was having my own Garage sale Sat and Sun. so I had lots of time to look.. I spent a long time trying to find anything close to your lamp.. I have Failed..
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Phoenixguy1954, that's not even close to "Failed". Lol, you crack me up. I really appreciate all of your efforts and time. I think it's one of these items that is just one-of-a-kind and the best we can do is find something made of the same materials at around the same period of time. I will keep looking. And I'm going to have some time today to take photos of the plug and the socket. I hope you had a really fun, junk-clearing and cashy garage sale! ;-)
Re: Antique Pewter Lamp?
Hey there, so there are a couple more photos of the plug and the socket, as well as the lightbulb. Thank you everyone for your detective skillz and wonderful spirit of generosity. You rock!!!!!! ;-)
