Antique Gamewell Fire and Telegraph Co fire alarm box

By swilli1020, 20 September, 2010
Description

Gamewell Fire and Telegraph Co. fire alarm box.  The masterbox has a small enclosed glass face that in case of fire one would break the glass and access key to open door.  Inside the masterbox is another box that has a the lever one would pull down activating the signal to the nearest fire station.  Generally these boxes would mount on a wall or pole near a corner on NYC blocks.  The clockworks inside are in very good condition and actually do work in terms of the winding.  I have restored the two I have back to how they would of looked after a fresh coat of red paint.

Re: Antique Gamewell Fire and Telegraph Co fire alarm box

HI

I HAVE HAD ONE JUST LIKE THE ONE POSTED - BUT THE NUMBER IN BRASS IS 14.  IT ALSO HAS LOTS OF BRASS.  THE BRASS DISK BELOW THE APEX OF THE SMALL ROOF IS A SWINGING DISK LATCH THAT COVERS A HOLE.... THE HINGES FRONT DOOR AND INNER ARE BRASS..  THE INTERNAL CLOCK WORKS ARE MOSTLY BRASS AS WELL.  THE FRAME OF THE SMALL KEY HOUSE IS ALSO BRASS.  I NOTICED THAT MUCH OF YOUR BRASS IS PAINTED OVER.....   ANY IDEA OF PRICE RANGE - MINE IS IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION .... MABE HAS ONE REPEAT COATING OF RED..REALLY GREAT APPEARANCE...  THANKS....
