Re: antique bronze bell
Hi, I just purchased the exact same unit at an antiques shop. I don't have all your answers but I can offer some info.
First, the bell is not "cast" as most old chinese bronzes are. You will see a seam up one side of the bell. That usually means it was formed by other means. Cast bronzes are usually one solid form with no major seams.
Next, look again at your "OOR". Mine has this as "ROC" (for "Repulic of China"), and "NAWIAT". Are you sure it might not be the same?
I am still trying to research mine, but like you, I haven't found anything like these, and I believe NAWIAT is a Chinese Company. I paid $12.00 for mine and I think I got a GREAT deal!
I am assuming that they are early 20th century because of the chain design. Maybe 1930's - 1960 or so. If they were really old it would be likely that the chain would also be links of bronze. That, plus I believe the chain I have (looks like yours too) is rather thin steel, and only "some" rust & corrosion. If they were too much older these links would have rusted away in exposue to the weather.
Anyway, it's great to see another one of these (finally! after searching!) because it means there probably isn't too many others out there.
