I recently purchased an Oshkosh Wardrobe Trunk and am a little confused about how to date it.
The last date on the patent plate attached to the top is May 22, 1923. On the bottom of one of the drawers is a label that says patented December 22, 1914. On the inside of the trunk. on the little latch arm is yet another date that says patented August 24, 1915.
It's not in pristine condition, someone dinged the latch up trying to get the lock off, it looks like it has some spots that were patched, and someone used some horrid orange paint and painted G.T.C on the top. But to me that just adds to it, it looks old and wonderful.
It has a sticker on it from the Hotel McAlpin, which I absolutely adore.
The inside looks amazing to me. It appears to have the original hardware and straps, wooden hangers and ironing board. The curtain has a few tears and stains, but looks amazing if it really is 89 years old.
It seems to be missing the key and iron, but I think that's all.
The shop I bought it from said they were told the G.T.C. was a Jazz band or singer from the 40's, and that at some point Tina and Ike Turner might have owned it (it was found in Nutbush, TN, which is where Tina Turner was from), but they had no way to verify it.
Any additional information, clues as to the date dilema, what it could be worth, would be much appreciated. I love my little find, and when I brag about it I want to do it with as much detail as possible.
Re: Oshkosh Trunk Company- Wardrobe Steamer Trunk
how much did you pay for the trunk and I also have one wondering how much it is worth.
