Description

Girl w dog painting I read online it was from 1785 as it says but I want to know what it is worth and how you can tell its authentic and real? And more information on it.

Painted by Thomas Gainsborough in the 1785 it's a girl with a dog holding a pitcher. The cracked pitcher stands for is a signal for 18thC paintings that virginity is lost which makes this painting all the more poignant.

The original work, called The Cottage Girl, was painted by Thomas Gainsborough in 1785 and currently hangs in the Ireland National Gallery of Art in Dublin. The reproduction you have was released by the Reofect company (most likely out of Chicago) sometime between the 1920's-1940's. The auction value is negligable, but it's a lovely painting.
