Singer Sewing Machine, plus attachments and case

Profile picture for user Valarie

Description

This is my grandmother's sewing machine that has been sitting in the closet for literally 50 years unused.  It's in good condition, but since I do not sew, I would like to give it a good home.  I am told by people who say they know what they're talking about that it's a  Featherweight 221.  The AF serial number dates it to about 1939.  Not shown in the picture are several attachments (feet, I think they're called), some bobbins and a case that's in good shape except for a worn handle.

So what is it worth?

Re: Singer Sewing Machine, plus attachments and case

Valerie:

It was one of Singer's first "portable" sewing machines, since everything that went with it fit nicely into the carrying case. Not sure if you have the case or not.  I have one also (I do sew, but would never use this).  I am not sure of it's worth, but my sister-in-law always makes comments about mine, so when you post your price, please let me know.  Thanks,

Re: Singer Sewing Machine, plus attachments and case

From what I've been told, at this time the market is flooded with antique and vintage sewing machines. It's especially difficult to sell these machines (even the ones that are exquisite, decorated, in working condition, and built into a sewing table!).

I love them anyway and have a colllection that I fix up when I have time. I always dreamed of having some sort of crafts shop that I could decorate with them. They are worth holding onto, rather then selling them for next to nothing or giving them away.

Good Luck.

Re: Singer Sewing Machine, plus attachments and case

Thanks for those of you who have read and responded to my post about my machine.

I am asking $300.00 for the machine, case and attachments, plus cost of shipping if I need to ship.

I realize that there's lots of similar machines on the market, but this is unused and taking up valuable space in my house.  I'd rather give it a good home.

So, if anyone's still interested, please let me know.

Thanks,

Valarie
