I have this watch which my grandfather gave me. I have no idea what model/year or anything about it honestly. I would like a rough estimate of how much would this be worth. Thank you very much

Hi,

That's actually not a Presidential. The proper name for the Presidential is Oyster Perpetual Day Date. What you have there is an Oyster Perpetual Datejust like it says on the face. The value depends on the year it was made and the condition it's in. Mind you, a solid 18k Datejust will always have value because of the gold content (and there is a lot of gold in one of those things), it just won't be worth as much as a watch if it's in bad shape. Although yours does seem to be in fairly good condition considering its age. It looks like it may be from the late 60's or early 70's but don't quote me on that because I really don't know for sure. Ebay currently has Datejusts selling anywhere from right around $1k to upwards of $10k, but the average selling price for a pre-owned Datejust is somewhere between $5-8k. If you want something more than just a ballpark figure, I would take it to a Rolex-certified jeweler and have them do an actual physical appraisal. They'll be able to tell you exactly when it was made and just how much it's worth (as a watch). Breaking it down and removing the movement, crystal, and other non-gold parts to weigh just the gold components, your watch contains approximately 100 grams of 18k gold. At today's current spot price of ~$1200/oz for pure 24k gold, the melt value of your watch is right around $3k.

Regards
