I have an iron cross like that and need any knowledge about it you may have, my father in law was there on d day

That's a Iron Cross 2nd Class. The lowest grade iron cross. When awarded the soldier could only wear it for 2 days after which he would take the ribbon and sew it to the lapel of his tunic I believe the third button down but the metal itself you couldn't wear only the ribbon except for the first two days.
Who was your father in law with? 101, 82nd, 29th etc etc and which beach did he land on?

MwpsqMy father in law was on a PT boat for the D Day invasion. There job was to draw fire away from the transports.
These medals are not from his collection. He did bring back some nice suveneers though.

these are easy to look up, I would say you have $40.00 each for the smalls. and $125.00 for the Mother Cross..There are tons of German stuff out there but they do sell well...check out the link,
