I have no idea what this actually is or how old it is and I was hoping that someone would be able to help me figure it out.

The emblem at the top or Initials whatever it is may help you find more about it  ! Try searching the   N ame or   IInitial ,It maybe silver.????(Category on Ebay as     Old Silver Jewelry BOX) Did you try cleaning it with silver polish>
