Montgomery Ward Chair

Description

This chair is in rough shape from Montgomery Ward. We are interested in the history of the chair and possible value (if any). It is a solid chair that can easily be refurbished into a nice chair for our Victorian home.

Thank you!

Okay, so here's what I know- Montgomery ward is a huge company, that has been making treasures for over a hundred years. The company hired a man to write a free pamphlet giveaway (the very first Rudolph), which he wrote with his daughter (aww). I don't know anything specifically about your chair aside from the hand carved work- I'm certain that you found a wonderful piece of our history and I strongly encourage you to have it carefully reupholstered by the right professional, and give the wood a nice oiling. Maybe tighten a few screws. I really think you found a great chair worth the effort- quick question- the last picture, are those hypotenuse wood pieces under the seat not original or is it the lighting that makes it appear this way?

This is a mass produced chair in the Federal Revival style, most of them post date 1925. Values for them in "as is" condition is very modest, often going at auction for under $50.00

Thanks, lovejoy- I was going to guess $40-$50 but I don't know enough about the chair to state a price. Solid, well made furniture is not something they make anymore.
