Description
I have a drop leaf table that folds out on each side, when open it measures 58 1/2" x 40". Has Walter of Wabash hardware, no other markings. Has four chairs, Danish style. Not sure if the chairs belong to the table as a set because the wood grain is different and color slightly different. Moving cross country and thinking about selling. I would like to know of any history or the maker of the furniture and of course a value.

Did the appraisal give possible type of wood?
If for sale, how much?
thank you

It's either walnut or teak for tables like this and this one is American Made, maker unknown. These tend to date from the late 1950's through early 70's.
"Walter of Wabash" was a company starter by Bosler Walter and his partner, who bought a manufacturing company in Huntington, IN, in1884 and moved it to Wabash shortly after. The partner, Thomas Hennessey, had invented a wooden table slide that allowed dining tables to expand for the insertion of leaves. Walter bought out his partner in 1887 and concentrated on the table slide business.
By the beginning of the 20th century he had the capacity to produce one million prominently marked slides a year and employed 25 men. Bosler Walter died in 1908 but his company remained in family hands and his name became a synonym for table slides and he is often mistakenly credited with actually making the tables that house his slides because his name is often the only one found under the table.
In terms of value, we'd retail a set like this for about $650.00

Thank you Lovejoy for the comments. Would your valuation include the chairs? The chairs have a different grain in the wood and stained a slightly different color.
