I have been told that this was brought from China by my grandfather in the 20s.. It has been in our family and we are trying to figure out what to do with it

It's not Chinese but Japanese.

 

The pattern on the cross in white and gold gave it away as being Japanese.

It has been made in the satsuma region.

 

The markings on the bottom point towards a specific kiln in that region.
