Description

i have yet to see a durgin cattail spoon like mine i've seen the strawberry fork that has the same design.. the silver salt spoons are identical in design but one is slightly longer than the other. the spoon part looks like it was soldered to the handle when looked at real close. i would like to know how old these items are an approximate value. but cannot find anything like them on the internet.

Re: silver durgin spoon with cattail handle. and silver salt...

Hello

I'm not an appraiser, but  I see that  an antique Dergin sterling cat tails spoon 1898, sold for $154.50 in 2007.

5 3/4" length

marked  "sterling" and Pat'd"

I don't know if Durgin made silver plate in 1898.. but if it;s s/p the value lessens dramatically.

Cat tails is the pattern of 1898...I'm not aware if they ever repeated it at a later date. You would need the silver hallmark or sterling 925. You could also have it tested...

I have found many beautiful pieces marked Italy, unfortunately most of them are sillverplate. Without the sterling hallmark it would be considered plate until tested...

Best of luck! :)
