Re: Antique Iron Bed

Looking to find something more out about this Iron Bed.  It is such a beautiful bed and I know it must have more history

Re: Antique Iron Bed

Your bed dates from the last quarter of the 19th Century, most of them like this date to the 1890's-1900, which means this one was fairly new when your grandparents got it. Values for beds like this peaked back in the 1980's, at auction they often sell for under $200.00

Re: Antique Iron Bed

This is the information I receiced from an online apprasial:

Thank you for the images. This is likely French made and would date to circa 1885. Antique bed framed made with iron, brass and bronze and depicting cherub heads are more desirable on the market than cast iron or wrought iron beds. On today's market, this can sell for for $1500 - $3000. Without a maker name stamped or marked on this, who made this cannot be definitively stated.

Re: Antique Iron Bed

It's just my opinion, but even very good double sized French iron beds rarely sell for anywhere near $1500.00 other than at high end Decorator Gallerys. I see comparable beds to yours sell at auction on a regular basis for under $200.00, we'd retail one for about $600.00 in fair condition, more if we fully restored it.
