Gold 1942 Mason pendant

By Nnatalie, 31 December, 2016
Description

1942 gold past Mason pendant. Was my great grandfather's. Can't find a gold mark but it might be in between the layers. There is an inscription on the back that has his name and lodge he was in. It's gorgeous and I think it has value to it.

Re: Gold 1942 Mason pendant

You'll have to get it tested, generally anything with precious metal content will have a marking in an easy to read spot to indicate the metal content. If it's gold plated a collector might pay about $50.00 for it.

Re: Gold 1942 Mason pendant

So if it was real, just say it was and then what would you value it as?

Re: Gold 1942 Mason pendant

it would be worth at least the weighted scrap value of the gold, for exaple if it weighed one ounce, its base value would be 1 X the daily scrap value for for 10- 18k gold. Here is a scrap gold link..http://www.goldcalc.com/

Re: Gold 1942 Mason pendant

Just one more question, if u can. This pendant dosent hold any other value other than weight? I just thought since it's probably one of a kind it's masonic and the age would bring some more value.

Also there is two different pieces that are put together to make it, so could the gold mark possibly be between the layers. It is not magnetic and I mean it's not showing any signs of being gold filled or plated.

Re: Gold 1942 Mason pendant

Fraternal order medals were purchased from wholesalers who catered to that market, very few would have been custom made, the only difference would be the personal inscription applied by the jeweller. Items in gold or silver were generally well marked, the marking would be placed were it could be easily read in most cases. Gold chains that come with some of these pieces would be stamped on the clasp, but with unmarked pieces your only way to determine what the metal content is is to have a jeweller test it.
