L&F Moreau lamp - original?

By z2weaver, 24 February, 2017
Description

The lamp is only marked with the L&F Moreau signature and the end of Moreau is not legible. It does not have the Moreau foundry mark nor does it have the Collection Francaise stamp. The base is thinner and seems like a different material than the sculpture. It is 36 inches tall and weighs 16 pounds. The condition is remarkable so I am having a tough time believing it is 100 years old.

Re: L&F Moreau lamp - original?

Based on what I can see it's a mid to late 20th Century repro of an early 20th Century example. Moreau never made lamps anyway, they were just examples made as lamps based on his sculptures.

Re: L&F Moreau lamp - original?

I appreciate the prompt response but I am looking for a more definitive conclusion. The only reproductions I am aware of have the Collection Francoise stamp on them which this one does not. Are there confirmed repro examples with no marks identifying them as such? If not, does that make this lamp the only known suspect "fake replica"? How do I confirm age/origin with a high degree of certainty?

Re: L&F Moreau lamp - original?

The article linked below says to look for the two marks I originally mentioned which my lamp does not have. There are a bunch for sale on eBay and the ones with only the L&F Moreau signature are thought to be original. Again, are there any confirmed examples of repro/replica lamps that ONLY have the L&F Moreau signature on them? If so, please explain and tell me how to determine for certain when/where mine was made.
