Description
Wooden bar featuring carved Asian (Chinese?) panels. Overall shape is Western, art deco style, not Asian. Top lid opens up to reveal intricately carved wooden panel showing Asian fishing village and temple scene. Outer doors have panels showing figures (monks?) walking on paths and also Chinese-looking dragons. Lift-up tray in upper portion of bar. Doors swing out on front to reveal storage. Has curved/rounded doors in both of the front corners. Also has doors on each of the sides. Interior lined in green felt. Top of lid (when closed) shows damage in veneer from a steam iron. Some of the carved panels on the front are of a different color wood and are probably replacements. Would like to know rough idea of value.

Has anyone made a comment on the appraisal for this item because my grandmother had one but with alot more carving to it and and she left it to me when she passed away. I was curious of its approx. value and actually the date of the item how old it may be.

Hi my name is Lisa and I have the same style bar also with much more detailed carvings on it. I have no idea what it could be worth either. I bought mine from my uncle who brought it home from Guam years ago when he was in the service.
Let me know if you get any info please. I am going for a house right now on my own and if it is worth alot, I would possibly want to sell to help with closing. Otherwise I really love it and wanted to pass it down to my sons if its only worth a couple thousand. My email is [email protected] if you hear anything on yours. Sounds like yours is like mine. There is no areas not engraved and from corner to corner of every panel.

I just aquired a piece similar to this one and have been doing a lot of research trying to determine the value and age. Mine is in excellent condition, has many of the original "high ball" glasses that fit into the top portion of the bar area and like you indicated ,the carving is intricate and is all over the piece. This is circa 1940, as to the country of origin it is difficult to say but Hong Kong is the most likely locale even though it could be the Phillipines.
Antique shop, private sale resale value is $600-$700 USD as long as the piece is in excellent condition.
The carving on the back panel varies from piece to piece.
