Artist: José Clemente Orozco Object & Period: Hands (Manos) ; Likely having been done in the early 1920's, a period when signed editions of lithographs, of similar pieces, were produced. Though, this piece is an original, never before published as a lithograph. Medium: "el dibujo al carbon sobre papel" ~ A charcoal drawing on paper. Size: The piece measures 18 x 12 Inches. Identifying marks: Orozco signed the piece "J.C. Orozco" on the lower right hand side (no pun intended); the stroke formation, interior countering, exterior contouring, and black pixel count of the signature is consistently in his manner. Acquisition: Late last year, I purchased this piece from Diamant Mihaloglou, a friend & avid collector of Mexican art. Provenance: Originally the piece was owned by Lic. Felipe Camacho, (Director of secondary education at COLEGIO VICTORIA A.C). The piece was given to Felipe by his father who obtained it directly from Orozco. After ownership was transferred to Filipe by his father he put it on display at a small gallery of antiquities owned by Emilio Zola. Diamant acquired the piece by proxy from Zola who contacted Felipe Comacho to transfer ownership, signed provenance ( in my possession) & complete the sale to Diamiant. Note that you can view lithographs of similar works by orozco on display and in the database at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. But, this is an original piece, not a copy or reproduction.
