As you note, you have a 17 jewel Howard ocket watch in a wooden presentation box.  Full retail on this watch is about $235.  You should be sure to check under the back case lid to be sure it is not gold.  If gold, the watch is worth much, much more.  My estimate is based on gold-filled 14k, which is what I believe you have.  What a great way to enjoy the memory of your grandfather.
