Donut shaped ewer with griffin on spout and ring in beak

Description

The ewer appears to be a glazed stoneware of sorts.

It has a griffin on the spout with a ring in its beak.

Under the base there is a number imprinted - "507"

It was given to my mother by a lady whose husband went MIA during WW2. I recall this lady saying it had been in her family.

I have found similar ewers on the internet made in Westerwald Germany, but those are always white or grey and blue.

I would love to know the history behind it.

It's a German stoneware Wine Ewer, most of them are late 19th century items, the ones marked Made in Germany tend to be peices made during the 1920's or later, the unmarked ones tend to predate 1890. Without a marking it's impossible to determine a maker, the unmarked examples tend to have modest values, often selling for under $100.00
