Greetings, I have a cedar chest that was my Grandmothers. It appears to be solid cedar. She was born in 1890 but I don't know when she bought the chest or if she bought it new. It has small wooden wheels and a fairly intricate barrel type key. The lock works smoothly. The top measures 42 1/2" x 20" and the chest is 18 1/2" in height. Any information about it such as manufacturer, year made, and a ballpark price of what it might be worth would be greatly appreciated. I plan on selling it. I am located in Boca Raton near FAU.Some details about the condition, I've tried to honestly list all issues it has:A broken and repaired (fairly obviously, slightly out of line) rear footOne front foot has a chip on the insideOne rear foot has a chip on the outsideA fairly slight split on the topA small crack under the top edge that is not visible when the top is closedA few minor dingsOverall it looks nice and it has a good finish that has not been touched that I'm aware of.Regards and thank you.
Re: Cedar Chest
Cedar chests like this tend to date from the 1920's to mid 1930's. Such "Hope Chests"were popular gifts to young women and wedding gifts right up through the 1940's. Values tend to be modest for them as they were made in huge numbers, most today even in very good condition sell for under $200.00.
