South Carolina METAL Drivers License Dated June 30, 1957

Description

I have not been able to find anything out about this little treasure. I've searched and searched with not results and no one who has seen it thus far know what is is. Hopefully some one here can help.

On the front across the top stamped in the metal is the experation date and on the bottom is South Carolina Drivers License.Stamped in the metal on the back S.C. State Highway Dept. Motor Vehicle Division

I have one of these as well and came on the site to try to find more info about it.  As far as I can tell, it is a motorcycle driver's license.  if you have found any additional information about this, I'd love to know.  From what I was told, years ago, they issued these for motorcycle driver's to wear like dog tags so if they got into a bad accident, they could identify the person.

These are quite common to find at  estate sales and the such. These were made into the late 1950's, at least in SC. I can't speak for other states.
