Liberty Bell 1776 Rocking Chair

Appraisal complete
Description

This rocking chair is very well made and a solid piece of furniture. If it ever had any markings on it before I don't see them now since it has been sanded and refinished. It use to be a very dark color of stain.

Hi there, I have the exact same rocking chair that I found at a yard sale in Old Town, San Diego, CA. I have been trying to find more information about this chair but I can't seem to find any, there is no brand or any engraving other than the 1776 liberty bell with the leaves and on the bottom of the chair there is what seems to be a serial number that was printed on with black ink but it's so old i think some numbers got rubbed off or sanded. Let me know if you find anymore information about this chair I would love to learn more about it.

I’m not finding the exact chair but found two that are very similar by Lock 1776 https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-hitchcock-early-amer-lock-1776-rocking https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-lock-1776-solid-birch-rocking-2054131623 Here’s another very similar one that sold on eBay, Virginia House is either the company or model https://www.ebay.com/itm/OVERSIZED-Vintage-Tavern-Stenciled-Rocker-Rocking-Chair-Virginia-House-/143840130588?hash=item217d8a361c%3Ag%3A8VsAAOSwGbFfrsYM&nma=true&si=AWklQ2B4kQxk3q1DHEnRZRug25M%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 And another Virginia House rocker where they are asking what I’m sure is an insane price https://www.ebay.com/itm/Virginia-House-Rocker-Rocking-Chair-Rare-Vintage-comfortable-Beautiful-Heavy-/264619014440 One more of that brand https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oversized-Virginia-House-Rocking-Chair-Vintage-Comfortable-Beautiful/124284536949?hash=item1cefef8875:g:fZoAAOSwZutfJ252 A google image search of Virginia House rocking chair will turn up several more. Maybe watch the eBay ones and see if they sell to try and figure out a value. I’d guess around $100 for auction. I don’t know if either of those makers made your chair but they are the most like yours that I can find.

These are reproductions dating from the last quarter of the 20th century, most date from the late 1970's on the run up to the American Bicentennial in 1976. They were made in huge numbers and are of very limited value, often selling for about $75.00 at auction if in good shape.
