Old Oil Painting

Profile picture for user Marvelmom

Description

I have had this oil painting which looks to be painted on some kind of wood for 20 years. It is an oil painting of boats in a river recently cross under some bridges. Mostly colors of blues and greens with some whites. It was in the frame it is in when it was given to me as a gift from my father who received it from an older man who was a collector and a traveler in his time before his passing in the 90s. The frame is made of wood and is green un the center and surrounded by a rope design in the inner and outer of frame and the frame itself is beautiful to me. The artists signed it and there is a picture included for you to view. From what I can tell the signature reads : CLAU DE SCHURR-51 ??? but I may not be reading it correctly so id love anyone's help! The frame looks quite old and it has many stickers and numbers on the back. one sticker that is torn is gold in color and has an address of 65 West 56th Street New York 19.N.Y.

Re: Old Oil Painting

There’s a French painter named Claude Schurr and I think that’s what you have. This link shows some https://www.invaluable.com/artist/schurr-claude-16vr0tynjn/sold-at-auct… The styles vary but there are some similar to yours. From what I’ve seen most look kind of abstract-ish landscape but some are closer to the one you have https://www.mutualart.com/Artwork/LE-RAMEUR/1CD1A44F14948C55
Here’s one from the same year https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6093165/?intObjectID=6093165
