1940's Purple Glass Cylinder w/Gold Gilt Hand drawn Cherubs Brass and Bronze parts Milk glass sconce top 33" tall

By Kindops, 2 March, 2021
Description

What I have researched has me looking at opaline, cylinder and converted liquid lamps. The glass looks frosted to me but could be something else like opaline. The lower parts seem to be brass but the mid to top look like they may be bronze. It had a giant lampshade to it that broke years ago and I foolishly threw it out. The sconce like top is milk glass that came with it. I presume it is french as the estate it was from was filled with french items. The entire lamp is mounted on a piece of cranberry marble.

I found a similar type of lamp on eBay made by Crest Company of Chicago. Hope that can help in your search. If I find more I’ll add to this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Tall-Crest-Co-Lamp-Hand-Painted-Orient…

Hi, thanks that is the closest I have seen to it but still not quite there. The lamp you found seems to have all brass whereas the one I am trying to ID seems to be a mix of bronze on the very top area and then brass below. From what I read it was common in France to adapt parts from oil lamps to electric early on.

This is closer to what it is as far as the brass parts and potential origin.
Late 19th Century Blue Opaline Glass French Oil Lamp, circa 1880

what do you think? All the items from the estate were high end and crest doesn't appear to be in that category.

Yes, the Crest isn’t hand painted. There’s another pair of those on Worthpoint but no info but it would seem those (the Crest) were mass produced. I did see some Crest that had better glass so not sure what’s up with that. Hopefully @lovejoy will check in and have some info.

Re: 1940's Purple Glass Cylinder w/Gold Gilt Hand drawn...

I really appreciate your help. Do you expertise on other types of lights? I have a metal rectangular hanging light, might be considered a parlor or a cafe' light (?) it has a few light sockets to it and on the top is a glass ball and then the chain that it hangs from. I know I saw one on Ebay a few years ago for 500.00 and of course now I can't find it...I have too many antiques & vintage I know nothing about. If I can identify half this stuff and sell it all I might be able to go on vacation if we can ever do that again...lol Thanks again you're a peach. Anna

I’m not an expert, mostly just find things through googling and hope to find some info. @lovejoy here has some really good answers so hopefully @lovejoy will see your post.
