Beautiful 17th Century Spanish Rapier acquired from a private collector. I'm trying to find any information on this for value and provenance. Pictures on the rapier and engravings attached. Thank you!!
The placard reads: Spanish Swpt-Hilt Rapier Late 1600s. With it's intricate design, the rapier became known as a gentleman's sword. This basic infantry weapon of the 17th century was designed as a thrusting weapon. Used in battle but also associated with dueling and fashion, this rapier has a wire-bound grip, and finely engraved blade.
