Ferguson bro folding table with bird hand painting

By SCWilliamson, 7 November, 2021
Description

I have a table that the top folds down. The top has a painting, looks Asian, of cherry blossoms and birds. The wood itself is in good condition. The painting however is damaged and the hardware is old and rusted.

Re: Ferguson bro folding table with bird hand painting

In a post submitted here in 2009 @Lovejoy says,
“Based on your images this is a second quarter 20th Century card/occasional table, but designed to resemble American Federal style examples made during the late 18th Century. These are often used as spare furniture for company due to their ease of storage. Values for them are modest, generally less than $75.00 at auction.”
I think that info would apply to yours.
Some info on the company https://hoboken.pastperfectonline.com/bysearchterm?keyword=Ferguson+Bro…
Liveauctioneers had an auction estimate of $100 - $200 with an opening of $50 and no takers on this one https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/62776976_a-ferguson-brothers-tilt-…
Here’s one one eBay you might want to follow https://www.ebay.com/itm/123716466566 and this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/153617186450
I doubt those will get there asking price but you can never tell on eBay.
I think the condition of yours might make it hard to sell.

Re: Ferguson bro folding table with bird hand painting

Since it doesn’t likely have great value as an antique, I’d recommend washing it with Murphy’s oil and varnishing it to improve the look. I have a similar one and that really brought the colors out.

Re: Ferguson bro folding table with bird hand painting

SCW: I posted my “vintage Masonite folding table” - unfortunately I don’t have any “before” pics but the post shows how it looks after cleaning and varnishing. Good luck with yours!
