Description
and That Title is pretty much all I know about this piece.
I fell in love with it 2 years ago and purchased it from a barn sale. - Paid $400.00 and the man who sold it to me also fixed the wood "fencing" on the top of it.
Not sure of the wood or the year -
Drawers on right side open - there are "fake drawers" on the left side.
I'm in the process of down sizing and moving and this is one of the pieces that won't be coming with me ~ just not sure what I should ask for it.

Forgot to mention -- there is some carved scroll work on the front. -- floral and vine pattern (see photo)
Re: Davenport Ship Captain Writing Desk
Im not an expert at all but that looks like a knapp joint (pin and cove joint) on the drawer fronts. This usually dates a piece to between 1871 and 1900. The joint was machine cut in a factory and was popular during this period prior to the popularization of machine cut dovetails.
Beautiful piece, i would love to find one some day
