Mahogany Side Tables, Ferguson Bros., Hoboken, NJ

Profile picture for user DrBecky55
By DrBecky55, 7 September, 2022
Description

A pair of bedside or sofa end tables used in my family since at least the 1940's or  more likely 1930's. The bottom drawer of each one has the Ferguson stamp. Both have cut glass tops to protect the wood surface.  They appear to be mahogany from the grain in the drawer base. The corners of both drawers are dovetail joints.  They have some wear spots from adjoining  furniture and use.

History
As above. My grandparent's bought them to use in either the living room with sofa or in the bedroom as bedside tables. The bedroom suite and the sofa were purchased in the late 20's or early 30's and shipped to Denver, Colorado. They have been in the family the entire 90-100 years, according to family members. I have direct recollection of these from the 50's.

Federal Revival Style bedside tables

These are in the Federal Revival style and do date from the second quarter of the 20th Century. Here is some info from my dusty files regarding the company,

"Ferguson Brothers Manufacturing Company (founded 1878 in New York City) was was wholesale manufacturer of furniture and accessories located in Hoboken from 1900 until the business closed in 1945. Large factory at Eighth and Monroe Sts., mailing address 832 Monroe St.

Wholesale makers of domestic and office wood furniture in many types and styles, but also made some novelty items as well as goods for other trades such as slide specimen storage boxes. Also used the marking: F.B.M. Co. "

In terms of value? Very modest. Currently at auction comparable pairs sell for about $150.00.
