Dreadnaught Sled

By MaggieW, 2 February, 2014
Description

This sled is about 90 inches long with two sets of foot rests.  It came from my grandfather's house and we don't know how much he paid.  We assume he bought it when it was new.  The only marks are the word 'DREADNAUGHT' and decorations in red on the top surface.  I assume it is a Garton.  Don't know whether sold directly by them or a blank for another company.  Some small damage to the tail end of the wood.  Looks like the finish came off.  Sorry about the last two images being under different lighting conditions then the first three.

Re: Dreadnaught Sled

I believe it is an early 20th century example, 1910-1920. I contacted a dealer who had sold some similar sleds in the past and they stated it was worth $50-$75 and they would offer $20-$25 if you were so inclined. Beautiful sled.
