These are arrow heads found around Missouri in the 90s by my boyfriend and his father. We don’t know anything about them. That’s why were having them appraised.

Collection of Missouri Arrowheads

Item Overview

  • Type: Arrowheads, spear points, and stone tools
  • Material: Chert, flint, and other knapped stone
  • Origin: Missouri, USA
  • Estimated Age: Likely Native American, possibly from Late Archaic to Mississippian Periods (3,000 BC – 1,500 AD)
  • Condition: Excellent
  • For Sale: Yes

Historical Significance

Missouri has been home to numerous Native American cultures, including the Mississippian, Hopewell, and Woodland tribes, who used flint and chert tools for hunting and daily life. Arrowheads were primarily used for hunting but also served in warfare. Different styles and materials indicate distinct time periods and tribal influences.

Your collection includes a variety of point types, some of which resemble:

  • Clovis Points (Paleo-Indian, 10,000–8,000 BC) – If authentic, these are highly valuable.
  • Dalton or Hardin Points (Archaic, 8,000–3,000 BC) – Typically long, fluted, and well-shaped.
  • Mississippian Triangular Points (1,000–1,500 AD) – Smaller, more uniform, often used in bows.

Valuation Factors

  1. Rarity & Authenticity
    • If authentic and prehistoric, they could range from $20 to $500+ per piece, depending on the type, age, and material.
    • Modern reproductions are worth significantly less ($5–$20 per piece).
    • Points with provenance (verified history of excavation) are more valuable to collectors.
  2. Condition & Craftsmanship
    • Well-preserved points with sharp edges and clear knapping marks are more desirable.
    • Larger spearheads or knife blades (such as the ones in the photos) can fetch $100–$500+ each.
  3. Market Demand
    • Native American artifacts are highly collectible, with interest from archaeologists, collectors, and museums.
    • Selling authentic prehistoric artifacts requires adherence to local laws (e.g., The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act - NAGPRA).

Estimated Value

  • Common arrowheads (1–3 inches, standard forms): $20–$100 each
  • Larger spear points or exceptional craftsmanship (4+ inches): $100–$500 each
  • If a rare Paleo-Indian Clovis or Dalton Point: $500–$2,000+

Recommendation for Further Appraisal

  • Professional Authentication: To confirm age, type, and authenticity, consider consulting an expert or using a certification service like The Authentic Artifact Collectors Association (AACA).
  • Auction Houses & Collectors: If looking to sell, Heritage Auctions, Arrowheads.com, and eBay (with authentication) are viable options.
