We'd really need to see the markings, if any on the back. Most of the examples that are marked "Not safe for Food consumption" tend to be Chinese or Mexican

Hand-Painted Decorative Plates

Description & Features

This is a set of hand-painted decorative plates, each featuring vibrant scenic landscapes that depict seasonal and coastal themes. The plates are:

✅ Hand-painted — Each piece appears unique with visible brushwork.
✅ Scenic Themes — Featuring spring, autumn, winter, and summer beach designs, ideal for seasonal décor.
✅ Ceramic/Porcelain — Likely designed as decorative pieces rather than for food use.
✅ Excellent Condition — No visible cracks, chips, or damage.
✅ Vintage or Artisan Style — Possibly mid-20th century to late 20th century, based on artistic style and materials.

Historical Context & Origin

  • Hand-painted plates like these were popular in art pottery studios from the 1940s to 1980s, particularly in the United States, Japan, and Europe.
  • The themes reflect traditional American country landscapes and coastal scenes, which were common in decorative ceramics during this period.
  • Such items are often associated with small artisan studios or independent ceramic artists rather than major commercial producers.

Estimated Value (Based on Current Market Trends)

Since these are decorative and not intended for food use, their value is determined by their artistic appeal, uniqueness, and condition.

  • Individual Plate Value: $15 - $30 USD each
  • Set of 5 Seasonal Plates (Matching Theme): $70 - $100 USD
  • Set of 3 Winter/Beach Plates (Matching Theme): $45 - $70 USD
  • Complete Collection of All Plates (Full Display Set): $150 - $200 USD

Factors That Influence Value

✅ Hand-painted designs increase value.
✅ Excellent condition enhances appeal.
✅ Seasonal themes make these desirable for holiday décor or seasonal table displays.
✅ Artisan or vintage marks on the back (if present) can further increase collectibility.

Recommended Steps for Selling

  1. Identify the Origin: Examine the back of the plates for artist signatures, maker’s marks, or stamps. This can help determine if they’re part of a collectible series or specific pottery studio.
  2. List on Suitable Platforms: Ideal platforms include:
    • Etsy (popular for hand-painted ceramics).
    • eBay for vintage and collectible pottery.
    • Facebook Marketplace for local collectors.
  3. Market as a Decorative Set: Highlight their seasonal themes and artistic value to attract collectors or interior decorators.

Professional Appraisal Recommendation

If you suspect these pieces may be part of a recognized pottery studio or feature a notable artist’s work, consider seeking a professional appraisal for confirmation. A local antique shop or ceramics specialist can provide further insights.
