Antique Solid Wood Nesting Tables with Brass Inlay

Description:
This set of three antique solid wood nesting tables features intricate brass inlay patterns. The craftsmanship, particularly with the delicate brass corner details and floral-inspired motifs, suggests that these may have been made in the early to mid-20th century, potentially in British India or Southeast Asia, where such designs were popular. Nesting tables gained prominence in the Victorian and Edwardian periods and were often used as practical yet decorative furniture pieces.

Condition:

  • Wood: The wood appears well-maintained with minimal visible damage. The natural wood grain is still vibrant.
  • Brass Inlay: The brass inlay remains clear and defined, though some areas show minor fading or tarnish, which is common with vintage brasswork.
  • Structure: The tables appear sturdy with no visible warping or major flaws.

Estimated Value:

  • Current Market Value: Based on similar pieces in the antique market, a set of this quality and design could range between $200 - $400 USD.
  • Factors Affecting Value:
    • Rarity: If the craftsmanship points to a specific region or artisan, the value may increase.
    • Condition: The better-preserved brass inlay and wood finish improve the value.
    • Age & Origin: If proven to date back to the early 20th century or earlier, its value could appreciate further.

Recommendations:

  1. Professional Appraisal: Since there’s no clear date or origin history, consider seeking a professional appraisal. An expert in antique furniture can authenticate its age, wood type, and craftsmanship to better determine its historical value.
  2. Preservation Advice: To maintain the set's quality:
    • Use a mild wood cleaner and brass polish to enhance the shine.
    • Keep the tables out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
    • Consider occasional waxing to nourish the wood.

Potential Buyers & Market:

  • Antique collectors with an interest in British colonial furniture or Southeast Asian designs.
  • Interior designers looking for unique vintage pieces for traditional home styling.

These tables are Rosewood, a type of very hard and an endangered species world wide. Sets like this tend to be Indian, often brought back by professional people stationed in India, most pieces handmade in small shops made to order. Most tend to date between World Wars 1 & 2, but they were still in production in India in the 1980's. Values vary a great deal depending on local demand, I've seen them go for a low of $50.00 at auction for those needing a bit of work to about $250.00 for a older set in very good condition.
