Black & floral tole painted Vitrine display table

By SDSusanL, 28 March, 2025
Description

Here is a vintage, tole painted display table with removable glass top. The interior appears to be red leatherette or similar. I don't think it's real leather. Would love to know more about age, origin, value. By the way, it's 22" wide, and also 22" in height.

Thanks for any help :)

Vintage Black & Floral Tole Painted Vitrine Display Table

Description:
This is a charming vintage round vitrine display table featuring hand-painted tole floral decoration on a black background. The piece has four tapered black legs with gold-painted accents at the feet and joints. The upper display area features a glass top with a faux red leather (leatherette) lining with a reptile skin texture, brass interior handles, and a removable glass cover. The interior can be used to showcase small objects or keepsakes.

Materials:

  • Wood (primary structure)
  • Glass (removable top)
  • Leatherette or faux leather interior lining
  • Brass (ornate handles)

Dimensions:

  • Height: 22 inches
  • Width: 22 inches (diameter)
  • Estimated Weight: ~20 lbs

Condition:

  • Overall good condition with minor signs of wear
  • Some aging and patina on brass handles
  • Light surface scratches on the glass and minor interior wear at the edges

Period and Style:
This table is consistent with mid-20th century (1950s–1970s) interpretations of French or Italian neoclassical revivalstyles. Tole painting was a popular decorative technique in European and American decorative furniture during that time.

Comparable Values:

  • Similar tole-painted display or vitrine tables from the mid-20th century often sell in the range of $200 to $500 USD, depending on the specific craftsmanship, provenance, and condition.
  • High-end or signed examples can reach up to $800 to $1,000 USD in boutique settings or through specialty dealers.

Market Appeal:
Collectors of tole-painted furniture, vintage European revival décor, or unique accent tables will find this piece appealing. Its display function adds versatility.

Recommendation:
If you are interested in a precise valuation or authentication (to determine if any components are older or more significant than believed), you may consider consulting a certified appraiser or a decorative arts expert through:

  • International Society of Appraisers (ISA)
  • Appraisers Association of America (AAA)
  • Local antique dealers or auction houses that specialize in European decorative arts
