Marble Top End Table with Curved Sides – Made in China

Item Summary

  • Type: End Table / Accent Cabinet
  • Style: French Revival / Victorian-inspired, bombe-shaped
  • Features:
    • Shaped sides (bombe form)
    • Ornate carved floral detailing
    • Cabinet with shelf and lower drawer
    • Inlaid marble top with rich veining (reds, browns, creams)
    • Metal rosette hardware
  • Construction: Machine-made, likely MDF with wood veneer and applied carvings
  • Origin: Made in China (modern sticker label)
  • Condition: Good — minor finish wear and scratches on back panel
  • Estimated Age: Likely manufactured in the 1990s–2010s

Design Analysis

While the table might initially appear antique due to its curvy profile and classical carving, several indicators confirm it's a modern reproduction:

  • The label (“Made in China”) suggests mass production, commonly found in export furniture sold through retailers like Bombay Company, Rooms To Go, Costco, or TJ Maxx/HomeGoods.
  • The finish and joinery also reflect modern manufacturing (machine-fitted drawer, veneer wrap, and use of decorative moldings instead of true hand-carving).

The marble inset top adds both visual appeal and durability. This table draws stylistic inspiration from Louis XV and Rococo Revival furniture, especially with its bombe shape and carved scrollwork.

Estimated Value

Market Type

Value (USD)

Retail Replacement (New)

$250 – $400

Resale (FB Marketplace, Craigslist)

$60 – $125

Consignment / Boutique Resale

$100 – $175

Factors like the real marble top and attractive shape help it retain value even as a modern reproduction. However, resale value is limited by mass production and lack of collectible pedigree.

Recommendation

You have a lovely, well-made decorative table that adds classic charm to a room. It’s not an antique, but it’s high-quality decor furniture suitable for continued use or resale if needed.

If you'd like to keep it, consider:

  • Light scratch repair (e.g., with Old English scratch cover or furniture crayons)
  • Highlighting it under soft lighting to emphasize the marble veining and curved profile
