Such an elegant piece but sadly it comes with no story line! The only thing the old man that sold it to me could say that it was used as afloral display with large feathery fan type plants. The glass vase has been purpose made with three " indents" to the wider side two to the narrower side and the bottom has two also. The vase cannot be removed having been " welded in". There is a small amount of movement (about 1/2 cm) to pull the vase up and down but vertically it is tight with no movement at all being securely held with the steel rods on all sides. If the vase was able to be removed it would fall over due to the glass indents at the bottom. The glass is thick and robust. There are no chips to the glass at all including the exposed top rim.
Has anyone seen such a piece like this? What would it's value be? Origionally I purchased it for resale but I have become attached to its " unknown" charm.
I have a contact who used to hand forge steel items. His comments were not to sell it for less than AUD$750. The curly outer forms are hand forged/beaten with welding or bronzing of some sort for the joins.
I look forward to hearing from someone.
Thank you.
