English Country Parlor

By pnixon1, 27 August, 2014
Description

This painting has a signed monogram (EJP) on the lower right corner, on the back of a red chair.
The canvas measures 12" by 9 1/4".
On the back is a very worn label where I was able to make out the paintings title,
English Country Parlor. The date appears to be either 1863 or 1868.
The frame is original and bears a brass plate with the name, Edward J Poynter.
When I recieved the painting many years ago both frame and painting were in need of restoration which I had done.

History
An old woman in New York used to enjoy antiqueing after WW2. She bought this painting at an auction in NY. She gifted the painting to me in 1986 after it was returned by her brother who had borrowed it with the intention of keeping it. After much persistance he finally returned it but in poor condition. It was for this reason she gave it to me.
