Antique Mirror with ornate gold frame

By whitechristmasgirl, 7 April, 2015
Description

I inherited this mirror and was told by a family member that it came from a castle from the 1700's but who knows if that's believable. This mirror has no markings and appears to have the original glass and original wood back.  The ornate top of the frame appears to be plaster since it is cracking on the back but I can't be sure of that either.  I've searched online looking for information on how to tell the age of a mirror but I'm not finding specific enough information to help me.  Any idea what terms I should use to search or how I can tell how old it is? (The white paper taped to the back is just a note my grandmother put on it saying it's too heavy to hang.)

The size of the frame is approx: 25 inches by 58 inches

The size of the glass is approx: 18 inches by 44 inches
