Picayune's Creole CookBook by Times-Picayune Publishing Co.

Appraisal complete
Description This vintage cookbook, titled "Picayune's Creole CookBook," is a highly sought-after item for collectors and cooking enthusiasts alike. First published in 1901 by the Times-Picayune Publishing Co., this 3rd edition cookbook was published in 1906. It features 418 pages of traditional creole recipes - often passed down orally by local cooks and housekeepers. The Picayune collected these recipes to preserve the unique fusion of French, Spanish, African and Native American influences. It was one of the first cookbooks to document dishes like gumbos, jambalayas and specific New Orleans Seafood dishes in such exhaustive detail. This copy features the classic black/dark cloth binding with embossed lettering. This copy shows significant wear on the spine and edges. The front cover is completely detached from the book and the back cover is hanging by a thread. A portion of the spine has fallen off but still remains intact and could likely be reattached. None of the pages have writing or highlighting on them. All of the pages are still firmly attached to the spine. The wear and tear is common for heavily used kitchen books from this era. These original hardcovers still hold value for their historical charm.
