Sprague & Carleton Hutch and Coffee Table

Category
American Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

Original Sprague & Carleton Hutch and Coffee Table.  Made in Keene, New Hampshire.  Solid Rock Maple wood.

Hutch is in good to almost excellent condition.  Has some "stress" showing at joints at shelving (shown in one picture below).  3 shelves with with bottom shelving opening up to add more space.

Coffee table is in good to fair condition.  Table has two leaves that open with spring locks (still easy to use).  Middle drawer with original metal marking of Sprague & Carleton.  One leaf of table has split wood (shown) and it appears there was a previous repair on this same leaf.

This furniture was purchased and used by grandparents -- purchased in 1940-1950 timeframe.   I've had furniture for at least 20 years in my homes.  Still looks great when polished up.  Furniture has been taken care of over the years.

Interested in appraisal.  Looking to sell furniture in near future.

Chess Set

Category
General Antiques and Collectibles
Condition
Excellent
Description

I have a "Genuine African Elephane Tusk Ivory" chess set, that was imported from the "Hang On" Ivory factory in Hong Kong in the mid 1960's. They are hand carved figures with a multi-ball base. The King is 8 inches tall and the ball is 9 layers. The pawn is 4 inches tall and the ball is 5 layers. The other pieces range in size between the king and the pawn. The chess board also serves as a storage place for the chess pieces, it is lined in velvet and when opened and set up the board is 2 ft x 2ft x 3 in. The set consists of white ivory pieces and stained brown ivory pieces.

Miniature school desk

Category
Toys
Condition
Excellent
Description

This desk is very heavy it weighs about 10 lbs. the measurements are from front to back  11 inches. From bottom to top of desk is 8 3/4 inches. From bottom to top of back rest is 7 3/4 inches. From bottom to top of seat is 4 1/2 inches to front of seat and 4 1/8 inches to the back of seat. And the width is 7 3/4 inches for the desk and 7 inches on the seat. The angles on everything make it look like the real thing. The scroll work on the cast iron is very attractive. The oak wood appears to never had any type of finish on it the patina is really starting to make the oak look very attractive giving it a nice dark appearance. I took as many photos as I could to help you hopefully determine its age and what it was really made to be used for. There is a 7/8th inch hole for an inkwell and a slot for your pencil. On the cast there are #s one side has the # 15 and the other side has the # 18 the #s are imbedded in the iron but they look like hand writting not a perfect stencil. I will try to photograph them there hard though being black on black. Thank you for taking the time to help me answer the questions I have had about this beautiful piece of miniature furniture.

K. Schamal Concert Zither

Category
Music and Music Instruments
Condition
Poor
Description

I recently bought this zither at a pawn shop for 20 dollars. On the first fret it's imprinted "K. Schamal Praha Prac" . It has 34 strings. From snippets of information on the web, I have found that "K. Schamal" made instruments in the late 1800s. There is also a banjo zither made by K. Schamal in the metropolitan museum.
