Wood Carved Fish - 7 foot long

Category
Folk Art
Condition
Good
Description

I have come across a very unique piece of wood art that I know nothing about and would love to have someone help tell me more about this piece. This wooden fish is 7 foot long and is 16 inches across. It is made of solid wood and it is very very heavy. It looks like it may be some type of folk art. It has hand carved designs on the fish and the wood is painted. It looks like the piece was hung by the two metal handles on the top of the fish. I do not know the age of this piece, but I do know that the handles look old and I have never seen an item like this in a store. I have attached several photos for you to look at. If you know anything about this piece I would love to hear from you. Type of art it is, what this type of art might have been used for, if this is a type of artwork that is made by a certain type of culture, what the value and asking price of something like this may be, etc. Thank you so much for all of your help!!

CorkTown

Category
American Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

This was a piece I aquired long ago for free. It was not part of their move and the customer did not want it. I have been in the furniture buisness for 26 years and have never seen anything like it before. There is a top cabinet. The desk portion has a unique middle leg that you pull out to reveal another desk top or work space. Covering it appears to be either leather or another heavy material. The top portion of the desk i believed was repaired but further inspection tells me that the top had probably the same material but is now lost to time. This whole unit was on seven casters which i still have. Anybody have any ideas? Please help.
