De Goal & Walker 9- Drawer Dresser

Category
Furniture
Condition
Excellent
Description

I purchased this item 15 years ago at a midtown Manhattan (NYC) thrift shop and it has been my personal bedroom dresser ever since. Would like some help identifying this piece, its age, and any other information anyone can provide (type of wood, maker info, value, age/period, etc). I've searched the internet for this company and have not been able to locate any information.

The dresser is obviously very old. The top shows some crazing in the finish and appears to be a wood veneer overlay used for its grainy effect. I am referring to the top only and believe this is the case because there is an area towards the back where the finish has chipped 1mm deep and there is smooth, unfinished wood of a different grain in that spot. It is entirely possible a veneer top was used in the manufacture of this piece for its durability. The rest of the dresser appears to be solid and of the same grain both inside and outside the drawers and throughout the dresser.

The dresser has three 8"w x 17"d vanity drawers down the middle and six 27"w x 17"d larger drawers, three to each side with original brass drawer pulls. Front panel of each drawer is fully rounded and has decoratively mitered edges. Dresser is fully dove-tailed with all wood tongue and groove drawer glides. There are absolutely no visible sign of brackets, metal or other hardware. Beautifully scalloped bottom and wavy front. Front and hind legs are one piece coming from top of the dresser all the way down, finishing in bombay feet in front (straight in back). The lower left-hand drawer is stamped De Goal & Walker or Walken. This is a very sturdy, well made dresser of superb quality.

Please take a look and e-mail me. Thank you so much.

Vintage Bisque Porcelain Baby Kewpie Figurine, Japan

Category
Ceramics and Porcelains
Condition
Excellent
Description

Item appears to be a vintage Japan Kewpie. Made of hollowed bisque w/hole on the bottom and JAPAN stamped in red. Thin and potbellied when turned on its side. The only color on the back is the continuation of the pink "diaper." Minimal/minor paint ruboff: 1) forehead curleycue, 2) tip of curl on left side of head, 3) center back of diaper. These 3 spots of ruboff are tiny and do not minimize eye appeal of the piece.

Item was dirty and yellowed when I purchased it. The photo is pre-cleanup. I've gently wiped it clean with a soft towel and a little soap & water. Cleaned up nicely with no wear to the paint.
