old iron cannon

Category
Militaria
Condition
Fair
Description

have had frazier arms museum (KY), the patton museum (ft. knox), carnige center (new albany, IN), and indiana state archaeologists all look at this and cannot figure out EXACTLY what type of cannon it is or from EXACTLY what period it is from.  what the best guess is that it is a 2-pounder swivel mounted signal/salute cannon...however it doesn't have the normal trunnions that most cannons have.  I have seen a very select two pictures over the internet that vaguely resemble my cannon and they are from the civil war, but several of the experts have said they believe it predates the civil war. The area in which I found it is mainly farmland, and the only known battles in the last couple hundred years fought in southern Indiana were from the Battle of Corydon with Morgan's Raid, which after the battle they went north and the path they followed could've taken them directly through where I found my cannon.  The person who took me to this creek to begin with initially to search for bottles said their mother found a cannon ball close to the same location, along with arrowheads.  This creek in which I found the cannon is very near another creek called Big Indian Creek...I don't know if that has any significance but I thought I would mention.

I really just want to know FOR SURE whatthis cannon is and from where it came:)
