Kenmore Sewing Machine, model #159-904, early 1960's
My dad purchased this machine for my mom for Christmas in 1961 or 1962. "Top of the line" electric motor powered machine with straight and zigzag stiches. Group includes machine, owner's manual (front cover missing) sewing cabinet/table, and storage stool in cherry-stained wood and mid-century modern style. Includes buttonhole attachment with geared throatplate and 9 templates that create 10 sizes/styles of buttonholes and eyelets. Also includes box of drop in cams that create 30 decorative stitches that can be used with either a single or double needle.
The cabinet, stool and machine are in good condition and show the types of nicks, wear and tear one would expect moving 5 times as my mom (a nurse and homemaker) followed my dad's career moves (state police officer). To the best of my knowledge, the machine is in good working order, although it could probably benefit from a professional cleaning and oiling. It has been used to create garments, children's clothes, home fashions, and costumes--lots of dance costumes, as I sewed costumes for others to be able to pay for my own.
The group came to live with me as my mom started "cleaning out," and now I'm "cleaning out" and it's time for this machine to find a new home.
This chair has been in the family for at least 100 years. In great condition, black leather seat is bowed in from use and is robably in too good of shape to be original.
Dome trunk with aligator pattern metal front and back. Lithograph on inside lid is of 2 little girls being bulled in a carriage by a dog with a boy standing next to it; there are also pictures of a bird and another picture of a dog framed in circles on the lithograph. There are metal rollers on the bottom. There is also a patent mark on the key hole, I can't make out a couple of the letters: *PAT7D.MAR.598AP?R77*
