I WORKED FOR A MAN WHO IS A MILLIONAIR AND CLEANED OUT A STORAGE UNIT OF HIS AND HE GAVE ME SEVERAL PAINTINGS AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE WORTH BUT HE TOLD ME THAT THESE TWO WERE VALIABLE AND WERE BY SOMEONE ORIGINALLY FROM DESTIN FLORIDA I THINK
I believe this is the original finish. It is scratched and nicked. The frame is solid and intact. The marble slab is 3/4 in thick and has no visible chips. It measures 48 3/4 in by 15 3/4 in. (slab)
On the under side are a few minor chips.
On the under side of the frame it reads; MERSMAN
86-09
The numbers are etched in the wood.
Both purses are Whiting & Davis, from around 1948. I got them when I was in Junior High. The gold purse is in brand new condition. The silver purse has some tarnish on the clasp.
the painting is of a forest scene. a river runs through the forest down the middle of the picture. there are 4 prominent trees in the foreground and a snowy mountain top that looks like it could be the canadian rockies or maybe the swiss alps. the signature, G. Whitman appears in the bottom left corner in black . it is signed in all caps with the "G" and "T" the biggest letters.
